Miller Music Creations was formed in response to the changing music needs of educators and community ensembles as a result of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Many ensembles that were forced to go virtual found themselves unable to afford the massive licensing fees or lost in the mire of an outdated, redundant copyright system that was not envisioned with them in mind. Even groups who were allowed to meet in person saw their numbers drop and instrumentation/voicing change, but under current industry standards and laws, they’re not allowed to make the necessary alterations to music that they already purchased without first securing permission (which can sometimes take a lot of time). Something had to change.
The best businesses are built and sustained through meaningful relationships with their customers and not a strict adherence to the bottom line. On its face, that may not seem like a sound business strategy, but my conscience would not let me do this any other way. I’m a firm believer that artists/musicians/etc. should be financially compensated for their work, but there is a fine line between proper compensation and greed. I wanted to offer my music to the public under terms that were not overly restrictive or expensive. If I can help community musicians and get my music performed, that’s a win-win. After all, a rising tide lifts all boats.
